News updates from NKDC
An award-winning pop-up youth space is coming to Sleaford’s Market Place, giving young people aged 11–18 free access to creativity, connections, and culture.
Running from Thursday 5 June 2025 to Sunday 8 June 2025, The Zone is a custom-built environment created by youth specialists Zest Theatre, specifically for young people. It is free to access and offers a welcoming mix of creative workshops, games, and relaxed hangout zones. There will be street art, silent discos, music, drama, and more all designed to be fun, accessible, and open to all. It is open on June 5 and June 6 from 3pm-7pm and June 7 and 8 from 11am-5pm.
Created by youth specialists Zest Theatre in collaboration with innovative structure designers AirClad and Inflate; The Zone combines the best bits of a youth club including table tennis and gaming with access to high-quality creative workshops and activities. The setup includes a colourful custom-built trailer, inflatable hangout spaces and outdoor decking – all purpose-designed to create a safe, welcoming and visually exciting environment.
It was originally developed in response to research with young people in Zest’s hometown of Lincoln, The Zone was created to answer a pressing need: the lack of third spaces for young people.
Please note that Under-18s need to register first for access via a form at www.getinthezone.uk which must be filled in by a parent or carer.
The Zone will then return later in the year, from September 18-21. It’s being brought to Sleaford by the District Council using UKSPF monies.

Also, Sleaford's Teenage Markets are returning for 2025, with the first running alongside The Zone on Saturday June 7 at Sleaford’s Market Place from 11am-5pm.

- accessibility to people who are blind or partially sighted and those with mobility problems
An invitation is being extended to any Lincolnshire veterans of World War Two to join in a lunch celebrating the contributions of our Armed Forces: past, present and future.
The 80th anniversaries of Victory in Europe and Japan, bringing World War Two to an end, will be the theme for North Kesteven District Council’s annual veterans’ lunch on Monday 23 June, which is a significant part of its Armed Forces Day activity and specifically celebrates the individual and collective service of veterans spanning many decades through the presentation of Veteran’s Badges.
To nominate a WW2 veteran for the lunch, and discuss arrangements, please contact the Council’s Partnerships Team on 01529 414155 or email: armedforces@n-kesteven.gov.uk
More details can be found on the NKDC website.
A grant fund remains open for further applications for events relating to the 80th anniversary of VJ Day in August; community and voluntary groups, charities and social enterprises with financial resources below £10,000 can still apply for up to £500 each to support local events that benefit communities.
Funded activity must take place within a week either side of August 15 and be of benefit to North Kesteven residents. Deadline for applications is July 21 and early application is advised. See www.n-kesteven.gov.uk/funding
Eligible costs include venue hire, promotional materials, decorations, and entertainment and the purchase of refreshments, but not alcohol, commemorative benches or structures.
There’s a dedicated North Kesteven webpage where you can apply for the grant, and which brings together further locally specific information at: n-kesteven.gov.uk/ve-vj-day
